BILL MOYERS: You know from the news that early next week the Senate Finance Committee is expected to vote on its version of health care reform. And therein lies another story of money and politics. Polls show the overwhelming majority of Americans favor a non-profit alternative — like Medicare — that would give the private health insurance industry some competition. But if so many Americans and the President himself want that public option, how come we’re not getting one? Because, the medicine has been poisoned from day one, in part because of that same revolving door that Congresswoman Kaptur and Simon Johnson were just talking about. Movers and shakers rotate between government and the lucrative private sector at a speed so dizzying they forget who they’re working for.

Can an American answer this question?
Why doesn’t the US? government pay for everyone’s health care who does not have insurance?
What’s the problem?
I’m Australian and my wife underwent a bilateral lung transplant 2 years ago.
We have a combined income of less than $50,000.
The government payed for pre-transplant care, surgery and post transplant care.
The entire cost – which would have been several million.
An its Australia – a far less wealthy country than America…
WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?
Maybe the money spent on lobbying could have been used to? insure those that can’t get insurance? Just a thought.
All forms of for profit insurance should be illegal, it is? no different than bookmaking. There should only be insurance co-operatives, where the policy holding members share the risk and the profit.This in turn could pay into a FDIC sort of fund to back it up if there was any problems.
@jkiene
OH I”m sorry did a swear BLURB hurt your feeling…. next time I’ll use a “bleep” .. Actually I would love a non profit pool that is overseen by the federal government but not necessarily run by them…. We need to cut out the middle man who is like a tape worm sucking all the nutrients from the system called? the private insurance companies who only think about PROFIT….
@funkyflights Funny and weird. You use profanity (Which is typical of Liberals because they can’t debate Conservatives successfully and then you try to be respectful (I guess) by using symbols to? represent more profanity? Ironic as well that you want private Insurance companies to stay out of healthcare but want something else like big government to control your Healthcare….funny
@jkiene
Dude …. Health care is not a choice when the private insurance companies deny individuals with pre existing conditions the option to get there own insurance.. OR just jack up the rates so high they cant buy it …. Fuck private health insurance companies …. let them stick to Auto? – Home and life and stay the #$@% outta health care…. There worse than the evil empire in Star Wars….
@stacekar
YES Lobbying should be illegal!!! It’s criminal the? way there bribing our leaders….
And what did we get? The People of America are forced to purchase a product from the Federal Government. Can the Liberals just stay? out of the lives of individuals? Take care of your own family and I’ll take care of mine. Government knows best is the liberal way. We’ll get busy and vote out all who voted for this takeover of our freedom to choose
@wrenzil Unbiased? That’s a joke. Billy Moyers is the? biggest liberal in the liberal media…
Please said YES If you are with me, Mr. Max Baucus should be out of the Health Care and / or Financial commitee?
The LIES keep pouring in—What Polls are looking at?
“Polls show the overwhelming majority of Americans favor a? non-profit alternative — like Medicare — that would give the private health insurance industry some competition. But if so many Americans and the President himself want that public option, how come we’re not getting one?”
watch YouTube video:? The Health Care Bill: What they DON’T want you to know!
She’ll have to work triple to be able? to pay the absurd private health care premiums.
This is criminal. Embrace? it with laws that will jail these murderers.
250,000 seems small. 250 million US citizens divided by the 1/400 physicians per person would equal 625,000. 625,000 x .73 should equal 456,250.
Then again the 1/400 physicians:person ratio may be a little high and? not reflective of the actual number of practicing physicians. You may be right.
sky Actually there are over 250.000 docs supporting? public option
Good luck with both of those logical yet never to happen ideas. I have been screaming this for the last 28 years.
I would go one step further and outlaw and disband the present day GOP and force a new party to take its place on the right? that isn’t a wholly owned corporate subsidiary.
Howdy Folks… If we want a Strong Public Option in the final bill we need to keep the pressure on folks like Harry Reid. Please visit the comment section of my profile and take a moment to sign the various petitions you will find there in support of the public option. You will also find their? phone numbers and other ways in which you can become more active. Thank you.
You, sir, are living proof that abortion? can actually be a social good.
Bill Moyers, excellent? as usual.
How do? you know she’s not impartial? Your assumptions are staggering.
as bill nelson pointed out today when the bill passed today? he was in favor of the public option and by the time it gets to the floor it will be back in when asked why the republicans were against the bill he said because the insurance companies were against it so to me that is a good thing
are you serious? Do you know anything about government? Do you remember Cheney and KBR? Do you know about govt/company/lobbyist revolving door?
There are many people who have health care expertise, including MANY impartial MDs and analysts. Not all of them are ex VPs of Health? care Co’s.
Where do you see that these advisors have a conflict of interest in the legislation? Fowler has specific expertise and her skills are needed. Baucus or Wellpoint may hire her.
If she was an exec at Coca Cola who left for a job at Pepsico would you assume shes a Coke spy? If not, then why assume the worst here?
Baucus? IS doing what he believes would benefit the American public best – working for HI reform and universal coverage, even if it follows the no Public Option Swiss model.
The Problem lies not in the Senate? or the House, it lies with You the people for Not getting involved in Your government, but allowing Big Money to control all of the purse strings. Now that the treasury is drained and your taxes go up and inflation skyrockets and some of you are without jobs or homes, you look to point that finger and place the blame. And pour ole Bill Moyers is just another rich puppet.
